How to stop Hair Loss and Hair Thinning

Hair fall and hair thinning are one of the most common problems faced by both men and women today. As much as 25% of the men below the age of 21 years suffer from hair loss. And 45% of the women suffer from hair thinning at some point of their life. Hair loss is a process that may differ from person to person. For some, it can be gradual, while others may experience sudden loosening of hair and patches of baldness all over their head.

It is completely natural and there is no need to worry over a few follicles tumbling off.

There could be many causes of Hair Loss, but before we discuss about it, we should know the mistakes we do which leads to a hair loss.

Below are the 6 mistakes we need to fix

1.    Heat is Bad for your hair.

Excessive use of heat can make your hair appear dry, thin, rough and brittle, you may even notice you have increased your hair breakage. By the term ‘HEAT’ we mean washing your hair with hot water or excessive use of hair dryer and other tools like hair straightener. You need to avoid this to stop the very main reason which causes the Hair Loss.

2.    Shampoo’s with Sodium Lauryl Sulphate.

Sodium Lauryl Sulphate is a surfactant which are found in Detergents which helps create lather. These are found in most of the Shampoos, so before you buy your shampoo check the ingredients. It can damage your hair, your scalp and can even drain out the proteins from your hair which is necessary for a healthy hair.

3.    Don’t forget to wash your hair before you sleep.

You need to wash your hair before you sleep as to make sure all the chemicals you use on hair is drained off. Chemicals such as Wax creams, gels and other hair products which is bad for your hair life.

4.    Brushing Wet hair

Brushing hair when wet puts a lot more tension on strands that would usually slide right through your brush leading to damage of your hair.

5.    Tying Hair Tightly

Wearing your hair tight all day can put an unnecessary strain on your roots. This can cause your hair to break and damage it. If you're tired of having your hair in your face and want to still tie it you can wear a hair band instead.

6.    Live Stress Free

Stress can even cause you hair loss, in this competitive world, stress has become a part of our life which is definitely not good for our hair and overall health. Meditation is the best, and can help us to lower down our stress.

Now let’s talk about the causes and the ways to fix it.

1.     Genetics

Hereditary-pattern baldness is the most common cause of hair lossIt is a natural condition caused by some combination of genetics, hormone levels and the aging process. Most of the people have a misconception that their hair health is entirely down to their paternal genes (Fathers Side) but actually its 60% maternal genes (Mothers Side) and 40% paternal genes (Fathers Side). This does not conclude that if they are bald you will also face the same. If you have identified well in advance about your hair health need not stress out, just maintain a proper Hair routine and you can put down the myth of Genetics being the main cause of Hair Loss.

2.     Fungal Infections

However, when the infection is severe the fungus (Dandruffs and other fungus) weakens the hair fiber, making it easy to break off. This can result in a patchy, diffuse hair lossHair loss from fungal infections can be prevented by keeping hair clean and by never sharing hats, combs or brushes with other people, 3 times a week oiling of your hair is necessary to remove the fungus, prefer Thuya Oil and once a week add Lemon in the oil for better results.

3.     Poor blood circulation

The nutrients in our body flow through blood. If the blood circulation in your scalp area is low, even if you take a nutritious diet, your hair will fall. This is because the nutrients are not able to reach the scalp area. So first to boost your blood circulation Exercise is a must which will help the heart to pump the blood flow and second is Massage, this should be done thrice a week, which even help with stress management.

4.     Increase in Dihydrotestosterone

Another major cause of hair loss is due to the rise in the levels of dihydrotestosterone. Almost 90% of the hair loss in men is due to the rise in DHT. Dihydrotestosterone (DHT) causes the shortening of the life span of hair follicles. Then chokes the hair follicles and eventually shuts them down. So to reduce DHT Levels in body one should include DHT Blocking foods. Some DHT blocking foods are Fenugreek seeds, Almonds, Banana, Tomato, Carrots, Mushrooms, pumpkin seeds, watermelon, walnuts, peanuts, spinach, mangoes, coriander etc.

5.     Drastic weight gain/loss

If there is a drastic body mass index fluctuation the hair follicles receives the signal to inactivate itself which causes hair loss. So make sure to maintain a stable diet and workout routine to avoid such drastic weight gain/loss.

6.     Poor Nutrition

Poor nutrition is the most important reason as to why the hair of both men and women start to thin out at a very early age. If the body is devoid of nutrients for a very long time, one thing it can afford is to lose hair. Body thinks that it can survive without a single hair on the head. So, it stops making hair and takes care of the other vital organs. So, any hormonal imbalance or lack or nutrients, hair has to pay the price. These days, fast foods, fad diets, cola, artificial sweeteners, artificial juices, processed foods are very much a part of every teenagers diet. This needs to be fixed.

7.     Lifestyle

Lifestyle is the second most important cause for hair loss in this generation. If you see our ancestors, they did not have the problem of hair loss until they are in their 60’s. There are few things we need to change in our lifestyle to prevent hair loss.

·         Sleep 6 to 8 Hours Daily

·         Eat Healthy Food

·         Don’t indulge more in smoking and Drinking

·         Live Stress free life (Meditation can help to an extent)

8.     Immunity

When you have alopecia areata, cells in your immune system surround and attack your hair follicles. This attack on a hair follicle causes the attached hair to fall out. The more hair follicles that your immune system attacks, the more hair loss you will have which will end up with a visible patch on the scalp. So to increase your immunity keep yourself engaged in physical activities like workouts and don’t keep on changing your sleeping pattern.
